Murjanah

What Is In A Name?

Murjanah is a beautiful Arabic name which means little pearl.
It is also the feminine form of the name (Murjan) which means coral - especially the red type that grows in the Red Sea, which is a precious jewellery piece.
That is why "Murjanah" got her name.
Because when she dances, her red hair will give the appearance of the red coral, with its delicately tangled branches swaying in the air in tact with the music during her performance.

Background

Murjanah began dancing oriental dance in 1997 after seeing it live for the the first time in her life at a Morrocan restaurant in 1995-96.
Here she was taught by Morrocans to dance with the heart, listen to the music and sense the moves in her body.
She spent a lot of time observing their joy in dancing and becoming inspired.
Upon returning to Denmark, she began taking classes - something she says she will never finish.
For her, the process of learning and bettering herself is a lifelong adventure. The main driving force is thus the interest in the culture and in the joy of the dance.
Even today she still gets inspired by observing other dancers and finding the joy of dancing in her heart - "letting go of everything and letting the music inspire the dance."

Even though Murjanah was introduced to dancing at an early age, it was not until she got to experience modern dance that the fascination truly took root.
She dabbled with jive, slow rock, hip hop, funk, vogue, show dance and many other styles before the oriental style of dancing captured her heart.
She has always had great interest in sports, the way the body moves, and human health.

In order to harvest inspiration for her unique dance style, Murjanah busies herself with (and frequently takes classes in) other dance genres, such as:

Tutors

Murjanah takes pride in going thoroughly in-depth with her dance and constantly seeks out knowledge about the dance as well as the history of its parent culture.
Engrossing herself, Murjanah attended a language school in Sana'a (Yemen) in the summer of 2005 and presently studies Arabic.
